As Content Developmental Editor, Video you will work with the other colleagues in the Video and Library Teams, as well as wider College Editorial teams to ensure that the SAGE Video product is meeting the pedagogical, learning and research needs of its end users in all its forms. A very important role in the Video Editorial group, this position will support the front-end design, type, appearance, scheduling for publication and market focus of its streaming video content and products.


Using a mixture of effective relationship management, good IT (e.g. BlueJeans, Skype), organizational and administrative skills you will be someone able to work expertly and quickly with a high volume of diverse tasks in an exciting and fast-paced area of the business. You will intelligently work with other members of the SAGE Video team (across departments), College, Editorial Boards of the video collections as well as other external clients and academics to ensure our products are competitive and meeting end-user needs for our library customers and patrons.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

This role will involve, but is not limited to, the following areas:


  • Developing and passing on to Video Editorial colleagues deep knowledge of the needs of each product’s key course needs through ongoing course research (for e.g. a good understanding of learning outcomes), collaboration with Editorial Boards, also working closely with College Editorial
  • Assisting Acquisitions Editors in the development of content plans for video collections along with offering guidance on topics that have the greatest video needs in the Higher Education market; helping further Acquisitions Editors in their understanding of the right types of content to fit with end user needs in these topic areas
  • Supporting the Video team’s wider and ongoing knowledge of the competitive landscape in streaming video, to help inform commissioning strategies
  • Working with Global Digital Production and Editorial colleagues on the timetabling, scheduling and project management of all content transmitted into the workflow such that SAGE Video products are launched on time
  • Working collaboratively with wider Video team colleagues to offer advice on product designs and enhancements to our products such that they continue to meet end user’s needs as completely as possible; offering support to Product Management through market research with end users to help inform design/enhancements to the SAGE Video platform
  • Through collaboration with Library Editorial colleagues, acting as a guide on the preparation of Editorial metadata to ensure consistency but also in helping to maximise SEO
  • Supporting Video Editorial activities in securing content for our products in a number of a ways such as working on scripts (animation or otherwise), the development of on-boarding materials for new contributors, outreach and attending shoots to support filming
  • Back-end support on our content in a number of ways, for e.g. reviewing content to help ensure the needs of the end-user is always met (including supporting peer review of our content, as required), metadata reviewing and correcting; and assistance with payments to authors / content-processing as needed.

Qualifications & Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree in the Social or Behavioral Sciences required from an accredited university and related work experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
  • At least 2 years of digital content experience in Editorial, preferably with Video, in either a College textbook or Video Distributor/Publishing organization
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects and meet strict deadlines in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to learn new technologies and evaluate evolving content/business needs
  • Experience and proven ability to supervise/work closely with external clients, freelancers, SMEs, third party vendors, and in-house staff
  • Knowledge of market trends and competitive landscape in the higher education market space
  • Strong IT skills, specifically Microsoft Office, Outlook and Skype
  • Must be comfortable working in a remotely managed position
