Overview

Perform production tasks on selected journals while meeting established deadlines and maintaining high editorial quality.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Article & Issue Tasks:

-Receive manuscripts from editors

-Ensure all elements are present and accurate

-Prepare article for copy editor

-Send article proofs to authors and editors

-Collate corrections from editors, authors, and proofreaders, adhering to proper grammar, punctuation, and style rules

-Check proof corrections made by designers and/or typesetters and send back until all corrections are made

-Check accuracy of article files publishing online, ahead of print

-Compile articles into issues and verify issue-specific information

-Perform all work with high focus on quality and avoiding errors

 

Supportive Team Member:

-Participate in meetings by contributing ideas and giving feedback in a concise and productive way, preparing and submitting agendas/presentations when required, and arriving on time

-Be available to provide support to other production editors on select journals as needed and defined by manager

-Fill out accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner, departmental forms such as time-sheets, quality feedback forms, status reports, etc.

-Take on or contribute to projects as determined by manager

 

Additional Tasks:

-Liaise with editorial office and society representatives of assigned journals as needed

-Perform other tasks as business needs dictate

Qualifications & Education

Qualifications and education requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

-A bachelor’s degree is required.

-Strong knowledge of English grammar, usage, and punctuation

-A detail-oriented eye for catching typos and grammatical errors

-Working knowledge of APA and Chicago editorial styles is preferred

-Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office and an ability to learn new programs quickly

-A general understanding of task management, including the ability to prioritize numerous simultaneous projects

-Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills
