The Professional Learning Product Manager is responsible for managing product strategy and informing product development to deliver effective and engaging professional learning solutions for the pK-12 market. Working across the research and development, conceptual, business planning, launch, and management phases of the product development lifecycle, the Product Manager is also responsible for implementing new directives for growth, managing strategic partnerships to support Learning initiatives, and supporting signature events around key programs and professional learning services. 


Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Product Development and Management

  • Supports Learning product innovation and business development processes
  • Supports on-going development and execution of the face-to-face business model
  • Liaises with multiple divisions within Corwin (sales, marketing, and editorial) and SAGE (e.g. finance) as the learning model continues to be defined
  • Works with Learning team to further development of products and services
  • Supports key partnerships through project management and shepherding key learning initiatives
  • Reviews projects to assess performance and ensure that program goals are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters
  • Establishes return-on-investment projections on all product development initiatives and is accountable for ongoing business reviews
  • Creates project proposals to determine the scope, strategy, time frame, budget, development plan and responsibilities, risks, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project
  • Supports the development and market assessment of new product concepts; predicts and manages change through the use of innovative methods
  • Ensures departmental compliance with SAGE processes and methods through facilitating cross-company communication
  • Provides input to forecasts; and helps to manage and maintain the department budget and associated costs
  • Prepares project reports for all stakeholders and modifies schedules or plans as required
  • Researches the learning solutions market, identifies trends and opportunities; facilitates interdepartmental communication to gather customer requirements; discovers new market opportunities, and defines product roadmap 

Business Development


  • Helps manage strategic alliance and author relationships to support Learning initiatives with clients, key national and state education associations, organizations, and press
  • Implements strategies to elevate Corwin’s profile with key authors and consultants
  • Serves as company representative at Corwin and educational functions such as institutes, book fairs, association events, national and state conferences, and client visits


Qualifications & Education

Includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university required
  • Proven budget development and oversight experience required
  • Demonstrated ownership of successful product strategies and product roadmaps
  • Demonstrated abilities to research marketplace trends and gather customer requirements
  • Demonstrated business planning and business case development abilities
  • Minimum of five years experience in operations, product development, and/or program management required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly organized and detail oriented
  • Proven ability to plan and implement special projects required
  • Demonstrated excellence in working with others and maintaining a positive working atmosphere for fellow employees
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing major projects or initiatives.
  • Broad knowledge of, and experience with, computer programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as professional learning, web, and social networking tools
