The Library Relations Manager serves as a member of the Library Relations and Outreach Team and is responsible for providing customer outreach to the library community on behalf of SAGE. The Library Relations Manager plays a key role in supporting and driving sales of the full SAGE and CQ Press product portfolio by developing and executing training programs for customers, potential customers, and library sales professionals. This position will focus primarily on the development and delivery of on-site, customer-facing usage driving instruction designed to ensure customer retention and satisfaction.




The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Facilitates both new sales and renewals by demonstrating SAGE’s products for the North American market.
  • Works with Marketing and other members of the sales team to identify the most impactful means of communicating product benefits to librarians.
  • Facilitates renewals by providing librarians with useful information and strategies for promoting SAGE products to increase usage.
  • Conducts customer visits with sales managers to present product information from a librarian’s point of view.
  • Works with both individual institutions and consortia in promoting and driving usage of SAGE products.
  • Recommends specific prouducts/solutions from the SAGE and CQ Press product portfolio based on identified customer need, expectations and purchase history.
  • Develops and delivers onsite product onboarding training to customers.
  • Works with Field Editors to facilitate communication with libraries that are not responding to known faculty interest in a product(s) to turn that interest into a sales opportunity.
  • Represents SAGE at professional conferences and other events.
  • Develops and implements usage driving initiatives.
  • Additional projects as assigned.
  • 50% travel throughout the US and Canada.




Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:


  • ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS required
  • Bibliographic instruction required
  • Experience in the publishing industry or within academia preferred
  • Strong work ethic
  • Equally adept at working independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient in PC environment; experience working with instructional technology preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including public presentation skills required
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Pleasant and persuasive manner
  • Creative, competitive, strategic and persistent sales demeanor
  • Ethical and honest in business relations
