Overview

The role of the Marketing Associate is to support the goals of the College Marketing department and implement marketing plans and programs developed by the department within specified budget and deadlines. The position requires a minimum 1-2 years marketing or other relevant job experience. This job requires excellent organization and planning skills including the ability to prioritize between multiple tasks, a strong proficiency in written and verbal communication, and an aptitude for attention to detail.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Implementation of Marketing Plans

  • Support Marketing Managers’ implementation of strategic multi-channel sales and marketing plans as directed in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Under the direction of the Marketing Managers or the Director of College Marketing, work as directed with SAGE US Journals, and SAGE UK & India Books to integrate marketing activities, and maximize sales of India and UK titles in US territories.

 Sales Direction and Support

  • Under the direction of the Marketing Managers drive of sales for pushlist and non-pushlist titles through effective sales support.
  • Under the direction of the Marketing Managers in the implementation of product and discipline/course market training for sales reps.
  • Oversee the creation of sales materials for bi-annual sales meetings and provide further sales support throughout season as required.
  • Participate in related telesales activities, and travel locally as needed with Textbook Sales Representative to university campuses to become more knowledgeable about the textbook adoption and sales process.

 Project Management

  • Oversee the OBC schedule to ensure Marketing Managers stay on schedule, including tracking of status, whether freelance assistance is needed, and follow-up on late projects.
  • Management of Interactive Book Tours including planning, production, development, and release.
  • Oversee the CourseSmart e-book program, including tracking titles in the system and maintaining tracking of sampling and sales activity.

 Product and Market Knowledge

  • Continually develop product, market, and competitor knowledge through campus visits, conventions, editorial, author, and customer communication.

 Copy Writing

  • Compose compelling selling copy and product messaging as requested by Marketing Managers.

 Conference Attendance

  • Travel to conventions on behalf of SAGE, act as Booth Manager, and plan booth schedule as needed.
  • Conduct effective and professional sales conversations on key textbooks.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery (to Customer Care) of orders.
  • Arrange and host special events, as needed.
  • Arrange for and produce any display advertising, as necessary.

 Customer/Author Relations

  • Act as representative of the company when dealing with potential or existing customers and authors.
  • When communicating with customers and authors, take appropriate actions to ensure they have a positive experience with, and image of, the company.

Qualifications & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Marketing or a related field
  • 1-2 years marketing, sales, or related job experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Superior planning and organizational skills
  • Be able to travel to at least 1-2 conferences per year
