Editorial (US) - Editorial Journals


This position provides administrative support for the SAGE Open Managing Editor who oversees the journal and various editorial projects associated with it.  Successful performance may equip the EA for promotion within the department.


SAGE Open is a peer-reviewed, "Gold" open access journal from SAGE that publishes original research and review articles in an interactive, open access format. Articles may span the full spectrum of the social and behavioral sciences and the humanities.


The main goals of this position are as follows:

  • Provide support to SAGE Open Managing Editor.
  • Work with SAGE Open authors, editors, and reviewers.
  • Complete various reports and recurring updates to the journal.
  • Assist other SAGE staff who work on the journal.

Please note that this position does NOT involve writing or editing of our content as it primarily supports the business aspects of journal publishing.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Maintain current information on the SAGE Open Editorial Board (500+ members). Help manage communication with Editorial Board Members.
  • Work closely with Peer Review Assistants in India to facilitate the timely processing of manuscripts through the peer review process.
  • Track the progress of Special Collections. Update Managing Editor, Peer Review Assistants, and Guest Editors as needed.
  • Report weekly and monthly on journal’s status. Provide ad hoc reporting information as needed.
  • Help maintain the journal’s websites and social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).
  • Interpret plagiarism reports and help determine an appropriate course of action.
  • Manage workflow for articles transferred into SAGE Open from other SAGE journals.
  • Work with colleagues in other SAGE departments (e.g. Marketing, Production, Finance, and Legal) on issues relating to SAGE Open.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Provide assistance with other projects related to the journal.
  • Represent SAGE externally by phone, email, and in person.
  • Perform daily work with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education


  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of one year of general office experience.
  • Excellent English verbal and written business communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines and work professionally under pressure.
  • Ability to learn new software.


  • Familiarity with HTML.
  • Familiarity with plagiarism detection software.
