Marketing (US) - PR and Public Affairs


As part of the PR, Public Affairs & Conventions team, the PR Intern will assist in the creation and dissemination of research news and corporate announcements to the media, public, and other internal and external stakeholders through press releases, blog posts, and social media. This support will include researching industry topics, writing, editing, and creative thinking in the creation of a wide variety of corporate messages.


Working closely with the PR, Public Affairs and Conventions Manager and the PR Assistant, the PR intern will make important contributions to the work of a major international academic publisher.Through this work, he or she will gain a valuable introduction to a career in communications and publishing.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation and editing of written communications related to public relations, including blog posts, press releases, and slide presentations for webinars
  • Conduct research that will help contribute to such communications including research on industry news and events
  • Support internal communications including maintenance of an internal bank of SAGE collateral and an internal news reporting blog
  • Through regular research, help maintian a database of media, reviewers, influencers, and other stakeholders
  • Support the US PR department in growing corporate social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube
  • Other administrative support for the PR & Public Affairs team, in discussion with the PR, Public Affairs and Conventions Manager

Qualifications & Education

  • Must be working toward a bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or related course of study
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience with basic social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and wordpress


  • Experience writing press releases and other public communications
  • Experience interpreting data and creating graphs
  • Experience using social media for business (e.g. working knowledge of Hootsuite)
  • Knowledge of AP style of writing
  • Experience using multimedia production and design packages (e.g. canva, prezi)


Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:


  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience reading and interpreting scholarly articles
  • The ability to independently prioritize when given multiple projects at one time
