Overview

SAGE Publishing, one of the world’s leading independent publishers of higher education academic content for classroom and library use has an exceptional opening for a field-based Sales Representative in our College Sales Department selling textbooks and related technology course materials based out of Minneapolis/St. Paul areas. The territory consists of Colleges and Universities throughout Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, Northern Iowa, Eastern South Dakota and Eastern North Dakota. This position requires overnight travel (40-45%) during key selling periods.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

The Sales Representative visits colleges and universities within their designated geographical territory. Representatives service and sell to an established customer base and are responsible for continued revenue growth and new business development in the assigned territory to meet and exceed yearly sales goals. The Sales Representative interviews faculty members and assists them with matching our textbook and technology products to their course requirements.  Key responsibilities include: conducting well-structured consultative sales calls, editorial prospecting, establishing relationships with faculty members and bookstore personnel, managing a large territory, successfully work sales opportunities resulting in course adoption for SAGE and CQ Press titles as well as maintaining our sales database.

Qualifications & Education

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with evidence of high academic achievement.
  • Demonstrated record of success in academic and professional background
  • 2 to 4+ years consultative sales experience required.
  • Strong work ethic (workload regularly exceeds 50 hours/week during peak selling seasons and must be willing to work hours needed and to travel based upon assigned geography)
  • Proficient in PC environment and must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, database applications and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including excellent public presentation skills and ability to demonstrate technology/print products in person or electronically
  • Superior time management and organizational skills with strong attention to detail

 

Preferred:

  • Field based sales experience strongly preferred.
  • Sales experience in the publishing industry a plus
  • Familiarity and comfort in working with CRM systems is preferred
  • Experience working a large geographic territory with overnight travel
