  • Overview

    As part of the PR & Public Affairs Global team, the PR Associate will manage the creation and dissemination of research news and corporate announcements to the media and other internal and external stakeholders through press releases, blog posts, social media, and other new mediums. Additionally, the Associate will use online tools and social media outlets to monitor PR activity around SAGE’s brand, products and publications.This will include daily logging and analytics of the SAGE brand, media, and social media campaigns.


    The PR Associate will make important contributions to the work of a major international academic publisher and as such, will be called to work independently to demonstrate creativity, problem-solving skills, and SAGE Publishing values, serving as the champion of those values in all communications. They will be required to proactively raise new ideas and discover and address concerns in the support of departmental and companywide goals and to work independently in support of them, reporting to the PR, Public Affairs & Conventions manager and with support from other managers and colleagues. Through this work, they will exhibit valuable skills to continue a career in communications including internal and external corporate messaging and brand tracking and analysis.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Create robust PR plans for launch and promotion of SAGE efforts and offerings and carry out those plans through evaluation and measurement. 
    • Strategically craft press releases and other messages about new research news and other corporate announcements based on the needs and priorities of SAGE departments and reflecting a current, basic knowledge of current events in the news.
    • Create other PR collateral, including webinars, email campaigns, white papers, and blog posts and contribute multimedia (video/audio) to SAGE communications channels (internal and external) including blogs, networks, and newsletters.
    • Manage SAGE’s webinar program, including calendaring, promotion, and training for all webinars.
    • Manage the email campaign process for emails being sent from the Global PR Team.
    • Support in the production of SAGE white papers
    • Working independently, manage the review of news outlets, social media, online forums, and listservs using Google Alerts, other monitoring services, and proactive searches to find mentions of the SAGE business and specific SAGE products as a result of these proactive efforts and reactively as needed.
    • Manage the deployment of a tracking system, through which pieces of coverage are collated, analyzed and reported out – internally and externally.
    • Build relationships with external stakeholder groups that receive the aforementioned messages (e.g. media) to help secure publicity about our announcements and to create new opportunities for engagement with our customers and other end users.
    • Build relationships with internal colleagues in key departments in order to help find areas for collaboration and better provide publicity support for their products
    • Liaise with senior management, as necessary in support of company-wide goals.
    • Manage the awards submissions process for SAGE U.S. (books, journals, other products)
    • Manage the book/reference review process
    • Co-manage SAGE corporate social media outlets, such as Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, slideshare, and Youtube channels, working independently to keep up-to-date on the best strategies for social media success. This responsibility includes creating images and infographics for creative visuals of SAGE news.
    • Support coordination of conference-related efforts such as managing publicity of awards and sponsorships and supporting promotion of library and research methods products.
    • Oversee development of events at conferences, as needed.
    • Assist in the management of the PR intern, liaising closely with the PR Manager and other members of the Global PR team.
    • Other support for the PR & Public Affairs team, in discussion with the PR Manager.

    Qualifications & Education

    Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:



    • 2+ years of professional experience working in public relations or related fields
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or related course of study
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and extensive experience with Microsoft Excel
    • Extensive use of social media tools such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.


    • Experience writing press releases
    • Media monitoring experience (e.g. working knowledge of Google Analytics)
    • Experience interpreting data and creating graphs
    • Experience using social media for business (e.g. working knowledge of Hootsuite)
    • Knowledge of AP style of writing
    • Experience using multimedia production and design packages (e.g. canva, prezi)
