  • Overview

    Responsible for playing a central contributing role to successfully planning, executing and reporting on the strategic marketing planning, marketing program implementation, operations, and budgeting for the Corwin Professional Learning Services (PLS) line. The Associate Marketing Director, is responsible for managing marketing staff, and is accountable for achievement of marketing key performance indicators (KPIs), the development and implementation of creative marketing and sales support strategies for the PLS product line. The Associate Marketing Director will work in close collaboration with the VP of Marketing, the Marketing Director of Publishing Operations, Editorial, Sales, and Learning teams to successfully position and sell Corwin workshops, programs, and other derivative products to the Education market; and contribute to overall company initiatives and strategies.




    Has leadership and management responsibility for the Corwin Marketing PLS team, will oversee, develop and implement creative marketing and sales support strategies for all related programs and services including the Visible Learning Plus (VLP) program. Responsible for marketing plans, DM and online marketing campaigns, Social Media and content marketing strategies, programs related website strategy, marketing reporting, lead nurturing, capture and tracking, sales collaboration and sales support materials, integrated sales and marketing strategies, market and competitive intelligence, sales product training, and sales presentations.

    • The position work closely with the Learning and Editorial teams on new product and pricing development, competitor analysis, and new product and program launches.
    • The position will support revenue forecasting (as necessary) for related product lines and pricing, expense budgeting and forecasting.
    • Position has direct responsibility for hiring, termination, and performance management for direct reports and their staff. Position has direct responsibility for the performance of the PLS marketing program, and all sales support initiatives.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    Product and Market Knowledge

    • Oversee market research on competing programs and products and ensure that the findings are incorporated into sales support and marketing strategies. Advise Editorial on new product development. Responsible for training of the Sales Managers on key programs.
    • Continually develop product, market, and competitor knowledge for assigned programs through district visits, industry meetings, conventions, editorial, author, and customer communication.
    • Utilize this knowledge of our products, their markets, and our competitors, to strategically position Corwin services and focus sales efforts to maximum effect through all sales channels.




    • Work closely with VP on strategic planning and budgeting.
    • Develop and communicate marketing strategy for assigned programs.
    • Oversee implementation of strategic departmental and companywide projects as assigned.
    • Collaborate with Sales and Editorial/Learning to plan effective sales meetings and continuously provide market intelligence to Sales and Editorial.
    • Develop pricing strategies for assigned programs in collaboration with Program Managers.
    • Lead ongoing competitor analysis.
    • Contribute to the Corwin Content Strategy.

    Budgeting and Forecasting

    • Lead budgeting and forecasting of the PLS marketing team’s budget.
    • Monitor sales channels and adjust marketing efforts and expense spending accordingly to ensure maximum sales and profitability.
    • Creation of necessary reports and tracking.

    Creation and Implementation of Marketing Plans

    • Oversee the creation and implementation of strategic marketing plans, taking into account key product information, market information, and the competitive landscape, and create a schedule of marketing activities that will achieve sales goals.
    • Oversee the preparation of marketing plans; present plans to Editorial and Sales.
    • Drive Social Media strategy and improve process.
    • Ensure close collaboration with the UK and Asia office, Australia, Canada, Channel sales and Higher Education as appropriate.
    • Oversee marketing planning and implementation for Australia, Canada, Asia, and other international territories.
    • Maintaining a pipeline of Marketing activity and reporting on their outcomes.
    • Communicate ongoing and future strategy.

    Sales Direction and Support

    • Collaborate with the Sales Director/VP to ensure the sales representatives are equipped with all necessary strategic sales tools.
    • Develop and launch multi-channel sales support strategies and post-engagement institutional support.
    • Support the SAGE Institutional team.


    The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Achieve revenue targets and profit goals established for the product line.
    • Manage staff to achieve annual marketing and strategic goals.
    • Contribute to Corwin and SAGE strategic goals.
    • Support the marketing roadmap.
    • Act as an ambassador for Corwin and SAGE with members of the education and academic community.
    • Attend industry conferences and seminars.
    • Travel to and conduct meetings at various Corwin/SAGE offices as required.
    • Submit all budgets and budget plans according to schedule and all quarterly revisions or reforecasts according to schedule.
    • Play a central role in modeling and holding marketing staff accountable for fulfilling the Corwin and SAGE‘s vision statement and collaborative management culture.

    Qualifications & Education

    • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
    • Membership and/or participation in relevant industry associations.
    • Minimum of 8 years' experience in education publishing; with at least 5 years' experience in management roles.
