  • Overview

    The Journals Marketing Intern role will offer broad-based education on various marketing strategies and tactics with a focus on utilizing social media to market SAGE journals and online products. Tasks will vary day to day and you will assist journals marketing department staff in the development and execution of marketing plans. This position will work closely with Marketing Managers to research and suggest content for existing SAGE Twitter channels, review approved content for distribution on social media channels, monitor and track results of social media marketing activities, and complete assigned research projects related to social media.


    In addition, the Journals Marketing Intern will be assigned other departmental projects and tasks, such as updates to marketing information on company websites.


    As part of the Journals Marketing team, the Intern will gain insight into product marketing and marketing strategies at a major international publishing company that will be invaluable experience for anyone seeking future employment in publishing, social media, marketing or other related areas. This position is a hands-on learning opportunity for those studying Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, and/or related fields.


    This internship is paid, part-time (20-25 hours per week during normal office hours). Candidates MUST be a student able to work out of our office in Thousand Oaks, California. This internsthp is scheduled to begin early-mid September. 

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


    The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Assist staff in implementation of marketing campaigns, editing or writing copy, pulling content, and making suggestions for improvement.
    • Research and suggest content for existing SAGE Twitter accounts in assigned disciplines
    • Learn and utilize various marketing systems as directed
    • Update web sites as assigned
    • Assist in execution/trafficking of marketing collateral
    • Aid in setting up new journals on website platform
    • Review content for distribution on SAGE social media channels
    • Monitor and track results of social media marketing efforts
    • Write draft copy for SAGE blogs and other social media channels
    • Monitor social media activity on non-SAGE channels in assigned disciplines and make recommendations for enhancing SAGE channels
    • Conduct market research or competitive analysis as requested
    • Support growth of existing social media channels through analysis of key influencers and trending topics as assigned
    • Complete other departmental projects related to online marketing, such as updates to marketing information on company websites

    Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications & Education

    Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following: 


    • Must be a current student working toward the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree at an accredited college or university. Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations and/or related course of study preferred
    • Extensive use of basic social media tools, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms. Familiarity with Hootsuite is a plus. Some experience using these tools for business would be an advantage.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel
    • Familiarity with HTML and content management systems desired
    • Experience conducting online research desired
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Excellent organization and time management, and the ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities
