  • Overview

    This position provides administrative and analytical support to a Senior Managing Editor in the US Open Access team. Open Acess is one of the fastest growing areas within the company, with a particular focus on creativity and innovation.


    We are looking for a candidate who is eager to learn about and grow within the academic publishing industry, and is able to quickly pick up new information as well as prioritize and multi-task effectively.


    This position is based in our Thousand Oaks, California office (remote work not permitted for this role). 


    Please note that this position does not focus on writing or editing of our content as it primarily supports the business and administrative aspects of journal publishing.



    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities


    This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Provide support to at Senior Managing Editor in managing the day-to-day running of select Open Access journals and processing of manuscripts in journal-related platforms as well as with scaling up products/services/processes.
    • Complete various reports and recurring updates to Open Access journals or related platforms, including tracking and reporting.
    • Update internal databases, websites, and resources as required.
    • Assist Senior Managing Editor in performance analysis of journals or related platform, workflow/roadmap development and status reports.
    • Work closely with Editorial Assistants and Peer Review Assistants to facilitate the timely processing of manuscripts through the publication process.
    • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including authors, editors, editorial board, and reviewers.
    • Liaise with colleagues in other SAGE departments as needed.
    • Ad hoc projects as needed and assist other SAGE staff who work on the journals.

    Qualifications & Education



    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Demonstrated excellent English verbal and written business communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
    • Organizational skills, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow directions, learn, and understand departmental procedures required.
    • Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines and work professionally under pressure.
    • Ability to learn new software.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team or independentely, with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to complete and follow through on priorities.
    • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and effectively multi-task.



    • A minimum of one year of general office experience.
    • Intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills, including VBA and Macros.
    • Basic understanding of Python or another programming language.
    • Familiarity with ScholarOne Manuscripts and HTML.
