  • Overview

    We are looking for a candidate who is eager to learn about and grow within academic publishing, and who is able to quickly pick up new information as well as prioritize, optimize, and multi-task effectively. SAGE Path is an article transfer service that provides authors with recommendations for sutiable journals. SAGE Path receives manuscripts from various disciplines and evaluates each manuscript’s content against author preferences and our available journals, ultimately recommending one or more suitable journals and providing a transfer link to the journal(s). 

     

    The Product Assistant will assist in developing and growing SAGE Path. This position will assist in processing manuscripts within the system, optimizing existing processes and workflows, and testing and implementing new process, as we continue to scale up the service.

     

    This position is based in our Thousand Oaks, California office (remote work not permitted for this role).

     

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

     

    This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Complete checklists for all submissions to SAGE Path and help to make this step more efficient.
    • As directed, assist with processing manuscripts from initial submission to initial recommendation, and then from the re-submission/revisions all the way to the final recommendation, tracking manuscripts all along the route to make sure they are processed in a timely manner and do not get stalled or lost in the system.
    • Assist with adding/updating, testing and continually improving email templates and system reminders across all sites relevant for SAGE Path.
    • Assist with ensuring that we communicate the benefits and workflow of SAGE Path to our target audience in the most effective and transparent manner, including by helping to conduct market research and making updates to the SAGE Path websites.
    • Assist with resolving author queries sent to the SAGE Path inbox.
    • Liaise with colleagues in other SAGE departments as needed.
    • Ad hoc projects as needed and assist other SAGE staff within the department.

    Qualifications & Education

     

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Demonstrated excellent English verbal and written business communication skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
    • Organizational skills, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to follow directions, learn, and understand departmental procedures.
    • Ability to effectively manage time to meet deadlines and work professionally under pressure.
    • Ability to learn new software.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team or independently, with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to complete and follow through on priorities.
    • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects and effectively multi-task.

     

    Preferred:

    • A minimum of one year of general office experience
    • Intermediate-to-advanced Excel skills, including VBA and Macros
    • Familiarity with ScholarOne Manuscripts and HTML
    • Basic knowledge/interest in programming languages such as Python or SQL
    • Understanding of anthropology or engineering is a benefit
