  • Overview

    The Rights Coordinator is responsible for supporting the permissions granting process by reviewing and responding to third-party requests for the use of SAGE content, and liaising with the Copyright Clearance Center on routine permissions granting tasks and issues. Additionally, this position supports the U.S. books publishing program by providing assistance with permissions projects and tasks, as assigned.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    Support the Global permissions granting process, as follows:


    • Monitoring the permissions email account throughout the day and appropriately and efficiently responding to permission requests within a timely manner;
    • Liaising with the Copyright Clearance Center for the issuance of standard permission agreements, on projects relating to system and title set-up, and troubleshooting problems as they arise;
    • Reviewing and pricing redirected orders that the Copyright Clearance Center is not able to process automatically per provided guidelines, in a timely fashion;
    • Drafting basic permission agreements using provided templates;
    • Liaising with the Finance Department on appropriately invoicing permission grants, and following up on outstanding payments as needed;
    • Providing information, upon request, regarding permissions revenue, and preparing reports as requested during revenue budgeting;
    • Replying to requests from company personnel regarding the reuse of SAGE content and our permissions policy; and
    • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

    Support the U.S. permissions clearance process, as follows:

    • Providing assistance to the Rights Supervisor with permissions clearance tasks, including fair use analysis, assistance in locating rights holders, and handling general inquiries from the Editorial teams;
    • Spot-checking permissions projects to identify areas of risk and opportunities for further training;
    • Assisting with training for internal staff on permissions concepts and processes upon request; and
    • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

    Qualifications & Education

    • Bachelor’s degree required;
    • One year of experience with licensing and/or permissions strongly preferred;
    • Experience in publishing or related field preferred;
    • Basic understanding of copyright law and principles preferred;
    • Computer skills including: Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, database navigation and entry, file merging; and
    • Filing alphabetically (A-Z).
