  • Overview

    The role of the Marketing Manager, Commercial Sales is to strategically plan and implement effective marketing initiatives in support of the Commercial Sales team and their goals to retain and grow commercial revenue streams for SAGE Journals, conferences and other ancillary products. The marketing manager will promote SAGE Commercial Sales products to marketers and advertisers who work primarily within the pharmaceutical, device manufacturer, and hospital markets. The Marketing Manager will utilize a high volume of digital marketing, and may also strategize and implement social media activities. Marketing initiatives will be implemented through direct promotional efforts and the creation of marketing/sales tools for the sales team.

     

    The position requires 3-5+ years of experience in targeted direct response marketing and analysis, as well as budgeting and forecasting. Marketing experience in B2B advertising, agency, and publishing experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge in the Science, Technology and Medicine (STM) markets is a plus.

     

     

     

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Strategic development, management and execution of Commercial Sales Marketing Plan
    • Define and create sales tools including sales slide decks, product information sheets, case studies, demographic reader analysis, infographics and more
    • Educate sales team on how to integrate marketing tools into their sales presentations, including how to utilize the Counselor Salesperson Approach (CSP), product one sheets and case studies
    • Preparation of annual marketing plan and budget for management review, based on an understanding of market dynamics, customer needs and behavior as well as the competition across market disciplines
    • Demonstrate success through effective marketing that contributes to and drives sales, while adhering to budget
    • Demonstrate strategic skills and flexibility by adjusting marketing plan throughout the year to maximize sales and ROI; assess the effectiveness of marketing activities by tracking sales and analyzing results of campaigns, providing recommendations for improvement and initiating modifications to various aspects of campaign planning and execution
    • Work closely with Sales team to gain market knowledge and build reputation as trusted advisor and key member of the team
    • Collaborate with internal departments beyond Commercial Sales, including Journals Marketing, Editorial, Conventions and Production
    • Support society and editor relationships alongside sales representatives
    • Leverage social media and digital advertising, as appropriate, to extend the reach of campaigns as part of the marketing plan
    • Become an expert at the marketing functionality of the online content delivery platforms to fully maximize marketing opportunities to drive sales
    • Utilize strong copy writing skills to develop effective marketing campaigns
    • Work closely with the Art, Email, and Marketing staff to create effective marketing promotions
    • Effectively communicate key product and market information, competitive information, planned promotional activities, schedule or calendar of commercial sales promotional efforts, etc. with colleagues in all departments throughout the company worldwide
    • Conduct market research as required
    • Travel twice a year to present marketing initiatives and participate in national sales meetings. Attend other meetings or conferences upon request.

    Qualifications & Education

    Include, but not limited to, the following:

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • 3-5+ years marketing or related job experience
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Superior planning and organizational skills
    • Budgeting and forecasting experience
    • Proven project management experience preferred
    • Experience working with sales representatives
    • Marketing experience in B2B advertising, agency, and publishing experience is strongly preferred.
    • Experience with social media marketing preferred
    • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred
    • Knowledge in the Science, Technology and Medicine (STM) markets is a plus.
