  • Overview

    The Associate Editor Preprints will be responsible for managing the day-to-day work of SAGE’s new preprint server, Advance. The Associate Editor, Preprints, will screen all preprints before they are posted and will check the preprints against Advance’s moderation checklist. This will include checking to ensure the papers have met certain ethical requirements. Having first-hand knowledge or experience in conducting research that may have involved human participants in a social science field is a plus.  At this time, Advance is only posting papers in the Social Sciences and Humanities.   Familiarity with these disciplines is key.

     

    The Associate Editor, Preprints will be expected to liaise with other departments to communicate and manage future enhancements, practices, and policies connected to the preprint server. A successful Associate Editor, Preprints will not only manage the daily tasks of running Advance but will also help contribute to SAGE’s overall strategy regarding preprints. In addition, the Associate Editor, Preprints will assist the larger Humanities and Social Science department with other tasks and projects as assigned.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    The job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

    Manage Daily Tasks for Advance:

    • Screen all preprints submitted to Advance.
    • Moderate papers to ensure no paper is in violation of editorial guidelines.
    • Work directly with the Preprints Project Team to implement platform enhancements and tasks as assigned.
    • Help manage editorial policies, submission guidelines, FAQs, etc. as posted on Advance.
    • Moderate comments section of Advance to ensure no comments violate commenting policy.
    • Review and process cases of research misconduct in conjunction with SAGE’s legal team.
    • Act as main point of contact for Editorial department around policies and practices relating to preprints; internal point of contact/expert for/on developments with preprints.
    • Stay up to date on relevant literature or news affecting journals publishing and preprints.
    • Respond to customer queries.
    • Manage and liaise with the advisory board.
    • Prepare internal and external reports as required.

    Qualifications & Education

    Include, but not limited to, the following:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
    • Experience with, or knowledge of, conducting research in a social science field.
    • Familiarity with academic research best practices, including ethical requirements for conducting research with human participants.
    • Ability to plan, organize, analyze and establish priorities to achieve results.
    • Must work well under pressure: highly motivated and energetic multi-tasker.
    • Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to build and maintain successful business relationships.
    • Experience in academic publishing, preferably in journals editorial, is a plus.
    • Detail and results oriented.
    • Must be proficient with software, including: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Good organization, research and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to learn new skills quickly and effectively.
    • Demonstrated ability to creatively solve problems.
    • Excellent professional written and oral communication skills.
    • Must be able to work in a changing environment.
