  • Overview

    The Technology Product Manager for Publishing Workflow Systems oversees and manages all product management for Publishing Workflow Systems across SAGE and Corwin. Conducts market research; generating technical requirements; determining specifications, production timetables, and time-integrated plans system introduction. This encompases the end-to-end lifecycle of the process, including scoping, through to launch, maintenance and enhancement. Interacts with multiple internal teams, external stakeholders and end users to ensure requirements are accurately captured and the solution is optimized to meet their needs. Interfaces closely with internal technical teams, including Project Managers, Business Analysts, and lead Developers to develop strong system/product specifications and approve release functionality. Contributes to the strategic vision and growth of the publishing workflow systems and informs research and analysis.

    Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

    • Responsible for day-to-day and strategic view for Publishing Workflow Process and Systems product(s) and roadmap(s), connecting the current delivery with the long term needs
    • Responsible for developing and maintaining the product roadmap(s)
    • Responsible for several major areas of delivery (products, projects, roadmaps)
    • Builds relationship with key business stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of the product needs and priorties
    • Translates business needs into requirements and roadmap priorities
    • Leads major initiatives, including cross-product and cross-platform
    • Identifies risks and proposes solutions to issues with vendor management, resources, major projects
    • Escalation point and conflict management with other departments, building structures, role clarity and relationships to head off future problems as well as current issue
    • Make compelling case and solid business recommendations shaping product priorities and budget requests
    • Responsible for developing best practise product management techniques and processes amongst the team, continually working to improve efficiencies and competencies
    • Responsible for communicating and educating all relevant internall and external stakeholders for products, projects, roadmaps

    Qualifications & Education

    • Minimum 5 years in academic publishing with experience in production, digital media publications, content management
    • Desired minimum 5 years product management experience
    • Experience and understanding of all aspects of the content publishing process, specifically production workflows
    • Experience supporting the build of technology products to support the development and delivery of academic content
    • Experience developing, leading, and owning product(s) roadmaps
    • Experience developing products through cross-functional teams
    • Experience in agile/scrum software product development, working with a distributed team.
    • Experience in creating product specifications, including capturing requirements, writing user stories and wireframing technology
    • Experience working in academic publishing/education preferred
    • Can demonstrate strategic thinking around products and platforms
    • Able to deliver compelling proposals for scope of enhancement budget
    • Proactive and able to Lead efforts to define new processes, incorporating feedback from stakeholders and external learning
    • Analytics experience with the ability to interpret data to inform business decisions
    • Abile to effectively interface with customers, both internally and externally
